Information On Bad Breath

There are a number of people in all parts of the world who have a similar problem with bad breath. For the person suffering with bad breath, the problem may seem anything but common. While there are a number of different things that can cause the problem, the most dominant cause of bad breath is the lack of proper dental hygiene.

When you wake of the morning and feel a film coating your teeth, tongue, and cheeks, this is the result of the natural drying that occurs in your mouth while you sleep. Bacteria thrive in the dryness and produce plaque. To clean the evidence of the bacteria from your mouth, you need to brush your teeth as well as scrape or brush your gums, tongue, and cheeks. Start by using dental floss to remove particles that are trapped between teeth and follow brushing by rinsing with mouth wash.

Even though you may be careful about using good dental hygiene, there are other causes of bad breath. People who have post nasal drip from sinus problems have drainage down the back of their throat and on the back of the tongue. Dead sinus cells, blood and puss along with other types of molecules that the body produces make up the drainage. The protein-rich substance causes bacteria to thrive, providing them with much-needed nutrients. Since the drainage serves as a steady food supply, bad breath develops and continues to increase with the sinus problem.

Although the bad breath results from a different cause, the cure is still the same. Your main goal is to clean the mouth of bacteria including that which is on the back of the tongue. Use a tongue scraper that is available at most pharmacies. While the scraper may trigger your gag reflex when you first try it, you will adjust to it in time. It is also a good idea to see a doctor for treatment for the sinus problem to get medications that will stop the drainage problem.  This will help you get rid of your bad breath and make you feel better at the same time!

Sometimes the problem you are having with bad breath is with another person. There is a lot of controversy about whether you should let the person know that they have a problem or just let it go. That may be a decision that can be made based on how well you know the person or how close you are to them. If you don’t feel comfortable about telling the person directly, then you may be able to take an indirect approach. Have mints handy to offer the person when you are talking with them. Whether they get the hint or not, the mints may be enough to make the experience more tolerable.

Bad breath isn’t a topic that many people feel comfortable in talking about, especially if the problem is theirs. It is considered a socially unacceptable topic which makes it even more difficult to approach someone who has a problem with bad breath. To make sure you aren’t the one who isn’t getting the message, practice good dental hygiene and take care of any sinus and respiratory problems that may lead to bad breath.
